Fact #172: How mad is mad?

I just finished re-reading Hamlet for my audition tomorrow. That's gotta be one of my favorite Shakespearean plays. Sure, almost everybody dies by the end -- it's not the most cheery story ever told, but it's so beautifully written.

I think it's true of any script that there are as many ways to interpret it as there are ensembles to stage it. But that feels especially true with Hamlet. There are so many levels and layers and unanswered questions in the script.

We know what the characters do, that part stays pretty much the same from production to production. The question that sits with me, and that's answered differently with each production, is why?

Luckily, that's one of my favorite questions.
